Stand with Us is an international organization whose mission is to support Israel, and fight anti-semitism around the world. Their high school program educates youth about Israel, connects Jewish teens to each other, and builds a community of trust for them and around them. Held by this imperative, Stand with US high school interns began to confide in the staff about their emotional struggles during the height of Covid, but the team quickly realized they were unprepared to support the students with confidence through the various mental health challenges emerging.
Miri Kornfeld Nauss, the managing director of the teen programs at that time, noticed the need for professional development. “Our mission is to strengthen student leaders and their understanding about Israel,” says Miri, but when it was clear that the students were struggling and they trusted us, their mental health became of primary importance.
Miri saw this moment as an opportunity to reach out to Jewish LearningWorks to request an all-staff Youth Mental Health First Aid training. The entire team across the U.S. was certified in the winter of 2021, enabling them to have tools at the ready to support their teens and each other.
We are proud of their decisive action, and their equal parts commitment to people and mission as they energize students through Israel education and leadership training.
