“I’m OK during the day, but at night I get scared, Which makes it hard to breathe…”
So begins Alicia Jo Rabins’ emerging collection of poems, “Bathtub Pandemic Poems,” which she has been writing and posting online over the past few months. Described as “raw,” “beautiful,” and “vital” by Oregon Public Radio, these poems embody our current state of desperation and resilience in the face of twin viruses — racism and the coronavirus. These poems also continue the themes of parenthood and creativity at the heart of her recent collection, “Fruit Geode.”
In this conversation Rabins will read poems and discuss her upcoming musical film, “A Kaddish for Bernie Madoff,” as well as her ongoing work with the groundbreaking band Girls in Trouble, which retells the stories of Biblical women.
