On the Map

On the Map is Jewish LearningWorks' curricular framework for teaching Israel in middle and high school programs. Created in 2016 by beloved Israel educator Vavi Toran, On the Map uses maps to tell the story of the history of Israel, through multiple narratives.
The material answers essential questions many learners are grappling with today, including:
- What are the complex realities of modern Israel?
- How is the history of Israel manifested in present day events?
- Who are the people whose stories are being told? What is their relationship to the land?
- What is the connection between borders, territory and a spiritual longing for the land?
On the Map is organized thematically around seven units with accompanying materials. Book this one-hour training, on an in-person train-the-trainer session, to learn how to adapt On the Map to your educational context, and learning outcomes.
The material can also be used for a 1-4 part training session for teachers of students of all ages to foster an opportunity for teaching teams to work together and consider the complex narratives of Israel at an adult-learner level.
The training includes access to the digital files of the curriculum.
