What is a Jewish story? Author Peter Orner will read from his recent story collection Maggie Brown & Others and discuss what it means to capture the complexities and contradictions of the American Jewish experience.

Peter Orner’s novels and stories have been celebrated for their deep humanity and attentiveness to social and psychological detail. His most recent book, Maggie Brown & Others, won this year’s Edward Lewis Wallant Award for Jewish fiction, and was a New York Times Notable book, as well as an Oprah Magazine Best Book of 2019. His book of literary essays, Am I Alone Here? was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and he is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Fulbright Scholarship. Orner currently teaches English and creative writing at Dartmouth College.
